This square platter was crafted from a tall birch tree that stood for years in a backyard of NE Portland’s historic Irvington neighborhood.

After final shaping on the lathe, the underside was heavily textured, adding depth and contrast to its clean, structured form. A finish of white hardwax oil gives the piece a smooth, matte surface and allows just a hint of the wood grain to show through.

A striking yet functional piece—perfect as a centerpiece or for holding fruit – its textured underside adding a tactile contrast to its crisp, white surface.

For the geographically-curious, these GPS coordinates mark where this birch tree lived its life:
45°32'22.6"N 122°38'52.5"W

Dimensions (approx.):
L: 9” (23 cm)
W: 9” (23 cm)
H: 2-1/4” (6 cm)
corner to corner Ø: 12-1/2” (31.5 cm)
